R -21 -37 <br />A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE LEASING OF APPROXIMATELY 32,500 NET <br />SQUARE FEET IN THE SOCIAL SERVICES BUILDING AT 1701 HIGH STREET TO <br />THE COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL SERVICES <br />FOR USE BY THE PORTSMOUTH HEALTH DEPARTMENT. <br />WHEREAS, since 2001 the City of Portsmouth has subleased space in the Social <br />Services Building at 1701 High Street to the Commonwealth for use by the Health Department; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the presence of the Health Department in the Social Services Building <br />centralizes services for residents; and <br />WHEREAS, the Commonwealth and Health Department desire to extend their lease for <br />the current space at a rental rate of $30,987.40 per month; and <br />WHEREAS, the Commonwealth has proposed a new lease with a five year initial term, a <br />five year option term, and a year to year tenancy thereafter; <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia that it approves and authorizes the execution of a lease with the Virginia Department of <br />General Services for approximately 32,500 net square feet in the Social Services Building at <br />1701 High Street, with a rental rate of $30,987.40 per month and a five year initial term, plus a <br />five year option term and a year to year tenancy thereafter. <br />ADOPTED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia at a meeting held on <br />November 23, 2021. <br />Teste: <br />City Clerk <br />
