WHEREAS, in June 2020, Dominion partnered with Orsted to install the Coastal <br />Virginia Offshore Wind project, the nation's first offshore wind project in federal waters; and <br />WHEREAS, since 2009 hundreds of stakeholders (businesses, government <br />representatives, elected officials, and university leaders) have worked together to deconflict the <br />offshore wind energy areas off our coast; and <br />WHEREAS, the Council recognizes the importance of ensuring that offshore wind and <br />the U.S. Department of Defense can co -exist in federal waters off the coast of Virginia; <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br />(1) That the Council agrees to support DMME as well as other state, federal and <br />regional agencies to proactively pursue regional economic development efforts related to the <br />offshore wind supply chain; <br />(2) That the Council agrees to support state and regional workforce development <br />efforts to develop new and strengthen existing workforce development programs to further <br />advance the offshore wind supply chain and provide good job opportunities for the citizens of <br />Portsmouth; <br />(3) That the Council agrees to do its part in assisting the Commonwealth in meeting <br />its 100% clean energy goals; and <br />(4) That this resolution shall be in effect from and after its adoption. <br />ADOPTED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia at an electronic meeting <br />held on September 22, 2020. <br />Teste: <br />City Clerk <br />
