AN ORDINANCE ACCEPTING AN EDWARD BYRNE MEMORIAL JUSTICE <br />ASSISTANCE GRANT FOR RECRUITMENT /HIRING IN THE AMOUNT OF <br />$18,000 THROUGH THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE <br />SERVICES AND APPROPRIATING SAID FUNDS IN THE FY 2017 GRANTS <br />FUND FOR USE BY THE PORTSMOUTH POLICE DEPARTMENT TO FUND <br />RECRUITING ACTIVITIES. <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia: <br />1. That it hereby accepts an Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance <br />Grant for a Recruitment /Hiring Initiative in the amount of $18,000 and appropriates said <br />funds in the FY 2017 Grants Fund. <br />2. That the funds shall be used by the Portsmouth Police Department to fund <br />recruiting activities, including video production, the purchase of necessary equipment and <br />supplies, and the payment of registration fees, travel and other expenses for participating <br />in and conducting recruitment events. <br />3. That an in kind local match of $2,000 is required as a condition of the <br />grant, which match will be satisfied by the salaries of officers participating in the <br />activities and does not require any additional appropriation. <br />4. That estimated revenues and expenditures in the FY 2017 Grants Fund are <br />increased by $18,000. <br />5. That this ordinance shall take effect on the date of its adoption. <br />ADOPTED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia at a meeting held <br />on January 24, 2017. <br />Teste: <br />City Clerk <br />
