R-14-46 <br />A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF VIRGINIA TO <br />AMEND THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA. <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia: <br />That the General Assembly of Virginia is hereby requested to amend the Charter of the <br />City of Portsmouth, Virginia, by amending Section 3.03 c. and by repealing Section 3.03 d. <br />thereof as follows: <br />Section 3.03. Election of mayor and members of city council. <br />c. In the event any member of city council during his or her tenure of <br />office shall desire to be a candidate for the office of mayor, he or she shall <br />be eligible to do so and shall not be required to_tender resignation as a <br />member of city council in order to become a candidate. <br />ADOPTED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, at a meeting held on <br />December 9, 2014. <br />Teste: <br />City Clerk <br />
