<br />R-13-09 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC UTILITIES TO <br />EXCEED BY 25% OR MORE, THE CONTRACT WITH WILEYIWILSON FOR THE <br />PORTSMOUTH DAMS AL TERA TION DESIGNS. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth, through its Department of Public Utilities, owns <br />and operates three earthen dams in the City of Suffolk as part of a network of lakes that serves <br />as the City's water supply; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a Preliminary Engineering Report was prepared by Wiley I Wilson in <br />September 2010 that addressed the improvements and alterations needed to bring the earthen <br />dams into compliance with the updated safety regulations; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Wiley I Wilson has performed additional surveys and flood modeling of the <br />properties impacted by a potential dam failure and has identified and modified the extent of the <br />improvements required to bring the. dams into compliance; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the potential savings to the City from Wiley/Wilson's work is $1.1 million; <br /> <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the additional work performed by Wiley/Wilson will add approximately <br />$40,500 to their original contract amount of $138,235 and will exceed the original contract <br />amount by more than 25%; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Section 12-183 of the City Code requires City Council approval to exceed <br />an original contract amount by more than 25% or $50,000, whichever is greater. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia that, pursuant to Section 12-183 of the City Code, the City Manager and the City <br />Engineer are authorized enter into change orders in a total amount exceeding 25% of the original <br />contract amount with Wiley/Wilson. <br /> <br />ADOPTED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia at a meeting held on <br />March 12,2013. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br />
