<br />R-12-16 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SIGN AN AGREEMENT <br />WITH THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FOR THE <br />WIDENING OF TURNPIKE ROAD FROM FREDERICK BOULEVARD TO <br />CONSTITUTION AVENUE. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), at the request of the <br />City of Portsmouth, established an urban highway project in the 1980s for the widening of <br />Turnpike Road; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the first phase of the project was the drainage outfall from Constitution <br />Avenue at County Street to the creek across London Boulevard from I.C. Norcom High School; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the second phase of the project will be the widening of Tumpike Road from <br />Frederick Boulevard to Constitution Avenue and is scheduled to commence in July 2013; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in light of the time that has elapsed since the project's inception and the <br />greatly-increased budget, VDOT has requested that the City enter into a new Standard Project <br />Administration Agreement that reflects the new budget and schedule. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth <br />that it restates its support of this vital urban highway project and authorize~ the City Manager to <br />enter into a new Standard Project Administration Agreement on the City's behalf with the <br />Virginia Department of Transportation setting forth the new project budget and schedule. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager is authorized to execute any <br />additional documents and to provide such additional assurances as he deems in the best interests <br />of the City and in furtherance of this project. <br /> <br />ADOPTED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia at a meeting held on <br />April 10, 2012. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br />
