<br />, <br />, <br />i <br />~ <br />l <br />I <br /> <br />~.d!lIiP- <br /> <br />R-12-58 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF VIRGINIA TO <br />AMEND THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA. <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia: <br /> <br />That the General Assembly of Virginia is hereby requested to amend the Charter of the <br />City of Portsmouth, Virginia, as follows: <br /> <br />1. Amend Section 3.02 a. (4) to provide that nominating petitions for the offices of <br />mayor and members of the city council shall not be signed prior to January 1 of the year of such <br />election, and that the petitions be filed not later than the time fixed for the closing of the polls on <br />the second Tuesday in June of the year of the election. <br /> <br />2. Amend Section 3.02 b. to provide that a candidate for the office of mayor or <br />member of the city council file his or her acceptance of such candidacy no later than the time <br />fixed for the closing of the polls on the second Tuesday in June of the year of the election. <br /> <br />3. Amend Section 3.02 d. to provide that candidates for the offices of mayor and city <br />council member file the name and address of his or her campaign manager with the Portsmouth <br />Electoral Board no later than the second Tuesday in June of the year of the election. <br /> <br />ADOPTED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, at a meeting held on <br />November 27,2012. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br />
