<br />'rt <br /> <br />llRnn~At~CrNU.".~~:~c= 9,4 <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 35 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA BY AMENDING SECTION 35-76 THEREOF TO EST ABLIISH <br />APRIL AND MAYAS HEARING MONTHS FOR THE BOARD OF EQUALIZATION. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia: <br /> <br />1. That Section 35-76 of the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia (2006) be amended <br />and reordained to read as follows: <br /> <br />Sec. 35-76. Board of equalization. <br /> <br />(a) <br />Virginia. <br /> <br />There shall be a board of equalization as provided in Section 58.1-3370 of the Code of <br /> <br />(b) The members of the board of equalization shall receive per diem compensation for the <br />time they are actually engaged in the duties of their office at the rate of $50.00 per day. Such per diem <br />compensation may be limited to such number of days as in the judgment of the council is sufficient for <br />the work of the board in any calendar year. <br /> <br />(c) The board of equalization shall proceed to hold its hearings during the months of April <br />and May in each year and shall consider all assessments originally made by the city assessor during the <br />12-month period and on January 31 last ensuing, giving precedence in order of hearing to those <br />assessments effective for the current tax year. <br /> <br />2. That this ordinance shall take effect on the date of its adoption. <br /> <br />2012. <br /> <br />ADOPTED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia at a meeting held on January 24, <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br />
