<br />R-11-20 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE INTERIM DEPUTY CITY MANAGERlENGINEER TO <br />APPROVE CHANGE ORDERS TOTALING MORE THAN 25% TO THE WAY FINDING SIGN <br />CONTRACT WITH GABLE SIGNS & GRAPHICS, INC. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, as part of the implementation of the City's Comprehensive Plan that contains a <br />component related to the improvement of the gateways and corridors throughout the City, a plan for way <br />finding and other signage was developed by a consultant, Frazier & Associates, as a part of its work with the <br />Urban Design Committee; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a way finding sign contract between Gable Signs & Graphics, Inc. and the City in the <br />amount of $299,999.99 was executed on November 5, 2010; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, unforeseen changes in contract specifications and scope have resulted in costs exceeding <br />the original contract amount by $149,015; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the projected contract amount of$449,014.99 will exceed the original contract amount <br />by more than 25% but will still remain with the original project budget of $500,000; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Section 12-183 of the City Code requires City Council approval to exceed an original <br />contract amount by more than 25% or $50,000, whichever is greater; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the completion date for the project will be unaffected by the change orders. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia that, <br />pursuant to Section 12-183 of the City Code, the Interim Deputy City Manager /Engineer is authorized to enter <br />into change orders in a total amount exceeding 25% of the original contract amount with Gable Signs & <br />Graphics, Inc., and to expend the funds necessary to complete the project. <br /> <br />ADOPTED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia at a meeting held on August 9, 2011. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br />
