<br />R-11-17 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY ENGINEER TO APPROVE <br />CHANGE ORDERS TOTALING MORE THAN 25% OF THE CONSTRUCTION <br />CONTRACT WITH FLINT CONSTRUCTION COMPANY FOR CRAWFORD <br />P ARKW A Y SEAWALL REPAIRS. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a project budget of $3,075,000 for the Crawford Parkway Seawall <br />Repairs Capital Improvement Project was adopted by the City Council on March 9,2010 <br />as a result of reprogramming of funds from the Holiday Inn Site Redevelopment Project; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, while Flint Construction Company was the successful bidder for the <br />seawall replacement project with a bid of $1,623,874.50, unforeseen existing conditions <br />and additions to the contract, including extension of. the replacement seawall, have <br />increased the present contract value to $2,025,780 or 24.7% above the original contract <br />amount; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Section 12-183 of the City Code requires Council approval to <br />exceed an original contract amount by more than 25% or $50,000, whichever is greater; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, while the project is approaching completion, there are still <br />necessary change orders resulting from underground conflicts and grading of adjacent <br />properties to minimize flooding that will require the project to exceed the 25% limit on <br />change orders by approximately $75,000, but will not exceed the approved budget. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia that, pursuant to Section 12-183 of the City Code, the City Engineer <br />is authorized to expend the additional funds necessary to complete the Crawford Parkway <br />Seawall Repairs Capital Improvement Project within the approved budget.. <br /> <br />ADOPTED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia at a meeting held <br />on June 14,2011. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br />
