<br />R-11-32 <br /> <br />ADOPTION OF A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE VIRGINIA <br />DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (VDOT) TO ESTABLISH AN URBAN <br />SYSTEM HIGHWAY PROJECT TO PROVIDE CITYWIDE SIGNAL TIMING <br />OF THE CITY'S TRAFFIC SIGNAL SYSTEM AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY <br />MANAGER TO SIGN AN AGREEMENT WITH VDOT FOR THE PROJECT. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Federal Highway Administration's Congestion Mitigation and <br />Air Quality Improvement Program (CMAQ) is intended to support surface transportation <br />projects and other related efforts that contribute air quality improvements and provide <br />congestion relief; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, CMAQ funds have been made available to the City for such <br />projects by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT); and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in accordance with Virginia Department of Transportation <br />construction allocation procedures, it is necessary that a request by council resolution be <br />made in order that the Department program Urban Highway projects in the City of <br />Portsmouth. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, requests the Virginia Department of Transportation to establish an urban system <br />highway project to provide citywide signal timing of the City's traffic signal system. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager or his designee is authorized to <br />execute an agreement with the Virginia Department of Transportation and such other documents <br />as may be required to fulfill the purposes of this resolution. <br /> <br />ADOPTED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, at a meeting held on <br />October 11,2011. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br />
