<br />LA W ENFORCEMENT MUTUAL AID AGREEMENT <br /> <br />THIS AGREEMENT, made this pI day of June, 2009, by and among the Cities of <br /> <br /> <br />CHESAPEAKE, FRANKLIN, HAMPTON, NEWPORT NEWS, NORFOLK, POQUOSON, <br /> <br /> <br />PORTSMOUTH, SUFFOLK, VIRGINIA BEACH and WILLIAMSBURG, each a municipal <br /> <br /> <br />corporation ofthe Commonwealth of Virginia; the County of JAMES CITY, a political subdivision <br /> <br /> <br />of the Commonwealth of Virginia; the Sheriff of the County of ACCOMACK; the Sheriff of the <br /> <br /> <br />County of GLOUCESTER; the Sheriff ofthe County onSLE OF WIGHT; the Sheriff ofthe County <br /> <br /> <br />of NORTHAMPTON ; the Sheriff ofthe County of YORK; and the Town of SMITHFIELD. <br /> <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Virginia law authorizes local governments and Sheriffs, in counties where no <br /> <br /> <br />police department has been established, to enter into reciprocal agreements for mutual aid and for <br /> <br /> <br />cooperation in the furnishing of law enforcement services; and <br /> <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the twelve local governments and the Sheriffs of the Counties of Accomack, <br /> <br /> <br />Gloucester, Isle of Wight, Northampton and York have determined that the provision of law <br /> <br /> <br />enforcement aid across jurisdictional lines will increase their ability to preserve the safety and <br /> <br />welfare of the entire area; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it is deemed to be mutually beneficial to the parties hereto to enter into an <br /> <br />agreement concerning mutual aid and cooperation with regard to law enforcement; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the parties hereto desire that the terms and conditions ofthis Law Enforcement <br /> <br />Mutual Aid Agreement be established. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, in consideration of the mutual benefits to be derived from a Law <br /> <br />Enforcement Mutual Aid agreement, the parties hereto covenant and agree as follows; <br />
