<br />R-06-55 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE AN <br />AGREEMENT WITH THE COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT <br />OF TRANSPORTATION FOR CERTAIN TRANSPORTATION IMPROVE- <br />MENTS IN THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in accordance with Commonwealth of Virginia Department of <br />Transportation (VDOT) construction allocations procedures, it is necessary that City <br />Council request by resolution that VDOT program urban highway projects in the City of <br />Portsmouth: <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council ofthe City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, requests that the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of <br />Transportation establish the following five urban system highway projects as part of their <br />Six Year Improvement Program: <br /> <br />I. Intersection Upgrades - Portsmouth Blvd and Airline Blvd, (UPC # T4209), <br />for the improvement of the signalization at the intersection of Portsmouth <br />Blvd at Airline Blvd. <br />2. Airline Blvd Coordinated Signal Upgrades (UPC # T4208), for improvement <br />of the signal systems along Airline Blvd between Victory Blvd the city limits <br />line <br />3. Equipment Support for Shuttle Bus Service (UPC # T4207), for the purchase <br />of equipment to create a downtown shuttle bus service <br />4. Downtown Portsmouth Shuttle Bus Service, Phase I (UPC # T421 0), for two <br />years of operational support for the downtown shuttle bus service. <br />5. Downtown Portsmouth Shuttle Bus Service, Phase 2 (UPC # T4211), for one <br />year of operational support for the downtown shuttle bus service. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia hereby agrees to pay its share of the total cost for preliminary engineering, right- <br />of-way acquisition, and construction of these projects in accordance with Section 33.1-44 <br />of the Code of Virginia, and that if the City of Portsmouth subsequently elects to cancel <br />any of these projects, the City of Portsmouth hereby agrees to reimburse VDOT for the <br />total amount of the costs expended by VDOT through the date VDOT is notified of such <br />cancellation. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager is authorized to execute <br />the necessary contracts, agreements, and any other documents necessary to accomplish <br />the work described herein. <br /> <br />ADOPTED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia at a meeting held <br />on October 10, 2006. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br />
