<br />ftD!DI"1lH't 11 209. 5 - 93 <br />UI\ """"" t ~..... - <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 30 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA (1988) BY AMENDING SECTIONS 30-100 AND 30-221 <br />THEREOF TO REMOVE THE TIME LIMIT FOR PURCHASING CREDITABLE <br />VIRGINIA RETIREMENT SYSTEM SERVICE FOR EMPLOYED MEMBERS OF THE <br />PORTSMOUTH SUPPLEMENTAL RETIREMENT SYSTEM AND THE <br />PORTSMOUTH FIRE AND POLICE RETIREMENT SYSTEM. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia: <br /> <br />1. That Sections 30-100 and 30-221 of the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia <br />(1988) be amended and reordained to read as follows: <br /> <br />Sec. 30-100. Inclusion of service under the Virginia Retirement System. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />With respect to any member who is employed full-time by the City of Portsmouth at the <br />time of making application hereunder for service credits and who was a member of the former <br />Virginia Supplemental Retirement System, currently the Virginia Retirement System, <br />immediately prior to his becoming a member of this system, and whose membership in the <br />Virginia Retirement System has ceased through withdrawal of his contributions thereunder, the <br />period oftime during which he was a member of the Virginia Retirement System shall be <br />included as creditable service hereunder, provided he terminates his membership in said system <br />and pays into the retirement system an actuarially determined amount deemed to be correct and <br />neutral by the Retirement Board with regard to funding the projected additional retirement <br />allowance to be received by the member through the purchase of such additional service credit. <br />Such amount paid into the retirement system by the member under the provisions of this section <br />shall remain as assets of the retirement system and shall not be considered as employee <br />contributions, any other provisions of this article to the contrary notwithstanding. <br /> <br />Sec. 30-221.
