R-03-10 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO AN <br />AGREEMENT WITH THE CITIES OF CHESAPEAKE, NEWPORT NEWS, <br />NORFOLK, SUFFOLK, AND VIRGINIA BEACH TO SHARE PUBLIC SAFETY <br />800MHz RADIO COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS DURING EMERGENCY <br />SITUATIONS, DISASTERS, AND SYSTEM FAILURES. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, radio communications are essential to the operations of the City's <br />public safety agencies; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is critical to maintain the highest level of 800MHz radio <br />commmnication system availability, particularly during emergency situations, disasters, <br />and systems failures; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Hampton Roads cities, including the cities of Chesapeake, <br />Newport News, Norfolk, Suffolk, and Virginia Beach, share Portsmouth's need to <br />maintain the highest level 800MHz radio communication system availability; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the cities of Chesapeake, Newport News, Norfolk, Suffolk, and <br />Virginia Beach wish to enter into a mutual assistance agreement with the City of <br />Portsmouth, that would permit the sharing of 800MHz radio communication system <br />infrastructures during emergencies, disasters, and system failures. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, that the City Manager be. and he hereby is, authorized to enter into <br />a mutual assistance agreement with the cities of Chesapeake, Newport News, Norfolk, <br />Suffolk, and Virginia Beach for the sharing of public safety 800~Hz radio <br />communication systems during emergency situations, disasters, or system failures, and to <br />execute such other documents, and take such other actions involving said cities and other <br />governmental entities as may be required to effect such purpose. <br /> <br /> ADOPTED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, at a meeting held <br />on February 11, 2003. <br /> <br /> Teste: <br /> <br /> City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
