AN ORDINANCE TO f~END Ci~tAPTER II, SECTIO~i 2~, AND C!~PTER III, <br /> SECTIOi< 2, OF THE LICENSE TA~ ORDINANCE OF THE CiTY OF <br /> ADOPTED FEBRUARY 15, 1955, AS A~DED, SO AS TO CLASSIFY UPiiTTENDED <br /> COIN-IN-SLOT ¥~ASHI~G ~CHINES AND DRYERS AS SLOT ~i~Ci{INES~ <br /> Ee if ordained by the Council of the City of Portsmouth~ Virginia, that <br />of the City of Portsmouth, adopted February 10, 1955, as amended, De amen a <br />re-ordained to read as follows~ <br /> <br /> CHAPTER II <br /> <br /> 28. SLOT ~C~INES. F~ch slot ~chine, which plays music only, $8.000 <br /> Each slot m~chine, registering the weight of a ~srson, $5.00. <br /> Each coin-in-slot vending machine, dispensing merchandise only and <br />having no ~rausement device, $5.00° <br /> Each slot machine used solely for the safe keeping of packages, bags~ etc. <br /> for each compartment or separate receptacle, $0.50. <br /> Each slot m~chine which plays music and shows motion pie%utes only~ <br /> Each slot machine of any other ~ype or device, including coin-in-slot wash- <br /> ing machines and dryers where there is not a paid a~endant on the premises a5 al! <br /> times, in which coins are deposited which may be allowed by the laws of this State, <br /> twenty-five ($~5o00) dollars. (Pay telephones excepted°) <br /> Each coin-in-the-slot vending machine dispensing merchandise only and hav- <br /> ing no amusemen~ device, in which coins of five cents or over are deposited~ $5.00, and <br /> in which one cent is deposited, <br /> Each coin-in-stet radio used in hotel or rooming house, $t.00 per year. <br /> ~le licsnse card or license plaze shall always be displayed on and at~ached <br /> to the slot machine, and any person having a slot machine on his premises or in <br /> possession without having such license plate displayed on the slot machine, shall be <br /> subjec~ to a fine of $!0~00, and each day shall constitute a separate violation there- <br /> of. Not prorated~ <br /> <br />Ct{APTER III <br /> <br /> 2. PERSONAL SERVICE OCCOTATiONS. Every person conducting, operating, or <br />engaging in any of the following businesses, trades or occupations, shall pay an <br />annual lmcense 5ax of $50.00 for the first $5~000 and $~.50 for each additional one <br />hundred dollars of his gross receipts, as hereinabove defined, in said business, trade, <br />or occupation for the previous calendar year: <br /> <br />business of operating: <br /> <br /> hotel. <br /> Turkish, Roman or other like bath or bath parlor. <br />An undertaker, embalmer. <br /> <br />The business of: <br /> <br />Bottle exchange. <br /> <br /> <br />
