ORDIN~CE TO A/~END SECTION 2-3§ OF THE C~g OF T~ C~ OF <br />PORT~U~, V~R~NIA, l~S1, CONC~G <br /> DAY AS A <br /> <br /> Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Portsmouth. Virginia~ <br /> <br /> that Section 2-35 of the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia t981~ be amended <br /> and reordained to read as follows: <br /> <br /> Section 2-35, Legal Holidays <br /> <br /> The following days are designated as legal holidays for sll employees of the <br />City, except Policemen and Firemen and those engaged in such employment as necessarily <br />require their daily services, and for all State officers performing duties for the <br />City; New Year's Day, February twenty-second, National Memorial Day, Fourth of July, <br />Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and Caris~mas Day. <br /> <br /> The CityL ~anager zs hereby authorized to allow laborers and other per diem <br />employees of the City, except Policemen and Firemen and those employees engaged in <br />work necessarily requiring daily services, pay for holidays ~hus designated, provided <br />~uoh e~oleyees have worked on the regular work day preceding and th~ ~gul~rw~u~a day <br />following the holiday. <br /> <br /> In all oases where the exigencies of the City require any labor te be performed <br />on any of the above-mentioned days by a per diem employee whose work would otherwise <br />entitle aim to such holidays, additional compensation sha!l be made therefor to such <br />per diem employees at the same rate as Such employees regularly receive, £igure~ on <br />a~ heurly basis. <br /> <br /> No other holidays will be observed by either State employees partly engaged on <br />City work or by City employees, except when special occasions are formally authorized <br />by Resolution of the Council. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, at a meeting held <br /> <br />on February 10th, 1959. <br /> <br />City Clerk. <br /> <br /> <br />
