AN ORDINANCE r0 AMiD SECTION 2-32 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY <br />OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, ~1951, TO PROVIDE FOR ACCUMULATION <br />OF SICK LEavE TO A I~XIMU~ OF FORTY-FIVE DAYS. <br /> <br /> Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />that Section 2-32 of the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, 1951, be <br />amended and reordained to read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 2-32° Sick leave. <br /> <br /> There shall be allowed to each full time regular officer and employee, <br />except those in the police and fire divisions, who has been in the con- <br />tinuous employment of the city for at least one year an annual sick leave <br />of five days~ with pay. The sick leave shall be accumulative over a period <br />of years to a miximum of forty-five days, which shall be the maximum sick <br />leave with pay allowed during any fiscal year, The city manager or the <br />head of the division supervising the employee shall, when he deems it <br />advisable~ require a certificate from a reputable physician as evidence of <br />illness before compensation for s sick leave period is allowed, and the <br />city manager in his discretion may also require an examination by a reputa- <br />ble physician selected by him, whose decision as to the illness of the <br />officer or 'employee shall be taken as final by the city manager. <br /> <br /> go officer or employee shall be entitled to or receive compensation <br />for sick leave unless he is employed by the city at the time he becomes <br />sick: No officer or employee shall be entitled to any compensation for un- <br />used sick leave, either while still employed or upon termination of employ- <br />ment with the city. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth at a meeting held <br />on December 27, 1960o <br /> <br />Teste; <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
