Police shall notify in writing the owner of record of such motor vehicle, <br />trailer or semitrailer, if known, that such motor vehicle, trailer or semi- <br />trailer, has been impounded° If the name and address of such owner is not <br />know~ within a forty-eight hour period, at the conclusion of such period the <br />Chief of Police shall cause notice of such impounding to be published once <br />in a newspaper of general circulation published in the city~ <br /> <br />Section 2-71.4o Release from impoundment upon paymen~ of charges and costs. <br /> <br /> No motor vehicle, trailer or semitrailer impounded under the provisions <br />of this Code shall be released or removed from the city pound except upon <br />payment by the owner thereof, or his duly authorized representative, co the <br />Chief of Police, who shall issue a receipt therefor~ of s towing charge of <br />seven dollars fifty cents ($?°50) plus a storage charge, if the motor vehicle <br />trailer or semitrailer has been impounded for a period longer then twenty-four <br />hours, of one dollar Der day or fraction thereof: plus cost of publication of <br />any notice required by any of the provisions of this Code, plus~cost of <br />investigation as ~o ownership and liens required by any oi the provisions of <br />this Code, provided, that the city manager is authorized ~o release any <br />such impounded motor vehicle, trailer or semitrailer from the city pound with- <br />out the paymen~ of such charges and costs~ or any par~ thereof, whenever he <br />deems it proper so to do. Such owner, or his duly authorized representative, <br />upon delivery of the motor vehicle, trailer or semitrailer ~o him. shall slgn <br />a receipt for the same° The payment of costs herein set forth, or the release <br />of any impounded motor vehicle, trailer or semitrailer, without the payment of <br />any or all of such costs, shall not operate ~o relieve the offender from the <br />liability of any fine or penalty for the violation of any law or ordinance on <br />account of which the motor vehicle~ trailer or semitrailer Was impounded. <br /> <br />Section 2-71~5. Payment ~o city treasurer of charges and costs received upon <br /> release from impoundment. <br /> <br /> All amounts received by the Chief of Police for charges and costs as set <br />forth in section 2-71.4 of this Code shall be paid to the city treasurer at such <br />times as the city manager shall prescribe° <br /> <br />Section 2-71o8. When motor vehicle, etc:~ co be considered as abandoned; <br /> procedure zn case of abandonment. <br /> <br /> When any motor vehicle, trailer or semitrailer is found unattended other- <br />wise than as hereinabove set forth, in the same place on any street or public <br />ground continuously for a period longer than three consecutive days, and the <br />Chief of Police has given the owner of record of such motor vehicle, trailer or <br />semitrailer at least two days' notice ~n writing of the intention of the director <br />~o remove~ or cause to be removed, such motor vehicle, trailer or semitrailer, <br />from such street to the city pound, or has made a diligent attempz co so notify <br />such owner, hut has been unable to do so, ~nd said motor vehicle, trailer or <br />semitrailer has no~ been removed~ ~he said mo%or vehicle~ trailer or semitrailer <br />shall be considered as abandoned~ and the Chief of Police is authorized and em- <br />powered to remove, or cause to be removed, such mozor vehicle, trailer or semi- <br />trailer to the city pound, ~o be there held subjec~ to the conditions and pro- <br />visions hereinabefore set forth in this Code° <br /> <br /> <br />
