as amended, be amended and reordained <br /> <br /> Section 20~ CESSATION OF MEMBERSHIP° The membership of any perso~ in <br />the system shall cease: <br /> <br /> (a) if he ceases to be an employee, unless the member leaves service <br />~fter twenty or more years of creditable service and has attained age fifty, and <br />do~s dot-wifJadraw his accumulated c~atrihutions, or <br /> <br />(b) in any event upon the withdrawal of his accumulated contributions, or <br /> <br />(c) upon death° <br /> <br /> Anything to the contrary herein notwithstanding, the membership of any <br />person shall not cease by virt~e of the fact that he became eligible for member- <br />ship i~ the Virginia Retirement System upon employmemt by or transfer to the <br />offices of the Co~missioner of theRevenue or the City Trensurer upon or ~Athin <br />Sixt~ days of July 1, 1959. The mermbership of any such person shall e~ase if <br />his employment in the offices of the Commissioner cf the Revenue or the City <br />T~e~surar thereafter temi~atea for any reason other than death, retirement or <br />resi~ll~tio~ tO accept immediate employment with the City in a position covered <br />by the provisions of this ordins~Ceo Service in said offices by ally SUCh person <br />shall be considered as creditable service ~der this ordinance when determining <br />eligibility for ordina~y disability retirement, service con~eeted disability re- <br />tirement, ~nd additional death benefits u~der Sections ~8 and 39 hereof~ but ~ch <br /> not be considered as creditable service when computing allowances <br /> ~ this ordinance. <br /> <br /> Anything to the contrary herein n~twithstandi~, the membership of any <br />person Shall not cease by virtue of the fact that he became eligible for member- <br />ship in the Virginia Retirement System upon transfer of the Department of Public <br />Health ~f the City of Portsmouth to the State Health Depmrtmen~ effective July 1, <br />19~0o The membership of any such person shall cease if his employment in the <br />State Health Department thereafter ~erminates for any reason ether than death, <br />retirement or resignation to accept ~mme~iate employmeat with the City in a posi- <br />tion covered bN the provisions of this ordinance. Service with the State Health <br />D~pa~ment Dy amy such persem shall ~e considered as cx~3ditable service under this <br />¢~dinance when dwterminin~ eligibility for ordinary disability retirement, ser- <br />vi~e Coquetted disability retireme~t, and additiemal death beaefits under Sec- <br />tiems 38 amd B9 hereof, ~ut s~eh servl~e shall not be considered as creditable <br /> <br /> <br />
