A~N OPJ)IN~CE t3~POSING ~ND COLLECTING T~ES ON ~ ESTATE, ~NGIBLE <br />P~AL PROPER~ ~D ~Y WI~IN ~E LIMITS ~ ~E CI~ OF <br />~RTS~O~, VIRGINIA, FOR ~E PURPOSE OF ~ISING R~ FOR ~ <br />~RT OF ~E ~T ~D ~ ~LIC FR~ S~LS ~ ~ PAY <br />~T~ST ~ S~KING F~ ON ~ ~LIC D~T FOR ~ ~ B~INNING <br />J~ARY 1, 1961. <br /> <br /> Be it ordained Dy the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that <br />for the year beginning January l, t951, and for e~ch year thereafter ~ntil <br />annuled by ordinance, the following tax shall be placed on real estate, tangi- <br />ble personal property and machinery within the limits of the City of Portsmouth, <br />for the purpose of raising revenue for the support of the government a~d the <br />public free schools and ~o pay interest and sinking fund on the public debt~ <br /> <br /> (1) The tax on real estate for the City of Portsmouth~ Virginia~ "~hall <br />be Two Dollars and Fifty Cents ($~o50) on each one Hundred ~ltars assessed <br />valuation thereof o <br /> <br />(2) Classification of Tangible Personal Property: <br /> <br /> (A) The following shall be classified as Tangible Personal Property <br />and taxed at the rate of Two Dollars and Seventy-five Cents ($2°?5) on each <br />one hundred dollars assessed valuation thereof: <br /> <br />(1) The aggre~ate number of horses~ mules and other <br /> kindred animals and the value thereof. <br /> <br />(2) The number of cattle and the value thereof° <br /> <br />(3) The number of sheep and goats and the value thereof. <br /> <br />(4) The number of hogs and the value ~hereofo <br /> <br />(5) <br /> <br />The aggregate number and value of all automobiles, <br />motor trucks, motorcycles and all other motor vehicles, <br />except any vehicle withoUt motive power used or designed <br />to be used as a mobile home or office or for other means <br />of habitation by any person° <br /> <br />(6) The aggregate value of mll animal drawn vehicles and <br /> bicycles. <br /> <br />(7) The aggregate value of all farming implements and tools <br /> of mechanics. <br /> <br />The a~re~a~e value of all felled timber, ties~ poles, <br />cord wood, bark and other timber products and all a~ricul- <br />rural products,~n ~'~hemhan~s or possessio~leg~lzor'Con- <br />structive, of a purchaser, provided that grain~ tobacco <br />and other agricultural products in the hands of a producer <br />of the same are hereby declared exempt from taxation as <br />property under this ordinance° <br /> <br /> <br />
