A}~ ORDINANCE TO AUTHORIZE A~ND DIRECT THE COA~VEYANCE OF TWO PARCELS OF <br />EXCESS LAND AT THE I, C. NORCU~ ~IGH SCHOOL SITE TO THE SCHOOL BOARD <br />OF '£PL~ CITY OF PORTS~OUTt~ IN ORDER THAT SUCH EXCESS LAND 5~A¥ BE EX- <br />CHANGED FOR ~Nf/I~LER SCHOOL SITE ELSEWHERE. <br /> <br /> V~HEREAS, the School Board of the City of Portsmouth, by resolution adopted <br />December 9, 1960, has determined that certain parts of the I. C~ Norcum High <br />School site hereinafter described are not necessary for the operation of said <br />school, and has requested that the City convey said excess land to the School <br />Board for use in an exchange for a school site needed at another location; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Planning Commission has recommended the conveyance of said <br />excess land for the purpose stated. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFOP~E, Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia~ that the ~yor and City Clerk be, and they hereby are, directed and <br />authorized to execute, seal and deliver to the School Board of the City of Ports- <br />mouth a deed ~th special warranty of title, in form approved by the City Attorney, <br />conveying the following described two parcels of land situate in the City of <br />Portsmouth: <br /> <br />Parcel No. 1 <br /> <br /> Beginning at the point where the west line of Howard Street <br />intersects the property line of the City of Portsmouth approximately <br />965 feet north of Air Line Turnpike, and running thence in a south- <br />westerly direction along the property line between the City of <br />Portsmouth and the Howard Apartments 104o60 feet, more or less, to <br />a point which is lO0 feet2 measured perpendicularly~ from the west <br />line of Howard Street; thence in a northwestwardly direction parallel <br />to and I00 feet distant from the west line of Howard Street 138.46 <br />feet~ more or less, to a point where the property of the City of <br />Portsmouth abuts the Plat of Western Branch Land Co.~ Map Book 4~ <br />P~e 80~ Norfolk County Circuit Court; thence in a northeasterly <br />direction 828o82 feet, more or less, along the southeastern side of <br />the aforesaid platted area to a point on the west line of Lewis <br />Street; thence in a southeasterly direction along the west line of <br />Lewis Street 271.92 feet, more or less, to a point; thence in a south- <br />westerly direction along the property line between the City of Ports- <br />mouth and property now or formerly owned by George To NcLean 677°40 <br />feet, more or less, to the point of beginning; the said parcel of <br />land being all of the property conveyed to the City of Portsmouth by <br />deed of W. H. W~ Cassell, et al, dated May 20, 1949, and duly re- <br />corded in the office of the Clerk of the Court of Hustings for the <br />City of Portsmouth in Deed Book 202, P~ge 63, which lies to the north- <br />east of a line located 100 feet west of and parallel to the west line <br />of Howard Street and the extension thereof; reserving therein~ how- <br />ever~ an easement for public streets cross~z~ ~he aforesaid parcel. <br /> <br />Parcel <br /> <br /> Beginning at the point where the northwest line of Wool Avenue <br />intersects the property line of the City of Portsmouth approximately <br />8~.25 feet southwest of Shasta Avenue~ and running thence in a south- <br />westerly direction along aa extension of the northwest line of Wool <br /> <br /> <br />
