AN ORD!NA~NCE TO PROVIDE FOR THE ACQUISITION OF CERTAIN <br />PROPERTY BY THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH D~DER EMINENT DO~Z~IN <br />PROCEEDINGS PURSUANT TO CHAPTER 258 OF THE ACTS OF <br />ASSEmbLY OF 1958, SAID PROPERTY BEING NECESSARY FOR <br />iM~ROVEM~NT OF A PORTION OF PORTSMOTJ~H BOULEVARD~ <br />ROUTE 337, PARCEL 153. <br /> <br /> W~EREAS, the City of Portsmouth has found it ~o be necessary <br />to widen and otherwise improve a portion of Portsmouth Boulevard, <br />Route 337, under a Federal Urban Aid Program whereby it is the <br />responsibility of the said City to ac~aire all necessary additional <br />property; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth has not been able to purchase <br />certain property necessary to this project because the owners there- <br />of and the City have not been able to agree upon the price Lo be <br />paid therefor; and <br /> <br /> ~EREAS, advancement of the work will be delayed unreason- <br />ably if the said proper~y is no5 made available as soon as possible. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, be it ordained by the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, that the City Attorney is directed to institute <br />eminent domain proceedings, employing counsel for that purpose, against <br />the property hereinafter described, in accordance with and pursuant <br />to Section 23-f of the Charter of the City of Portsmouth (Chapter <br />258 of the Acts of Assembly of 1958), and that the sum of ~567.00 <br />be deposited to the credit of the court as provided by law to com- <br />pensate the owners thereof: <br /> <br />(a) The owners of'record ere as follows: <br /> William J. Griggs and Henrietta P. Griggs <br />(b) The interest ~o be acquired is the fee simple <br /> estate zn and to the property hereinafter <br /> described as Parcel 153. <br />(c) The approximate area of Parcel 153 is 1~050 <br /> square feet. <br />(d) The description of the property is as fotlows~ <br /> <br /> That certain parcel of land situate in the <br />City of Portsmouth, virginia, more particularly <br />described as follows: <br /> <br />Parcel 153 <br /> <br /> Beginning at a point on the southern side of Portsmouth <br />Boulevard (formerly Old Suffolk Boulevard) S00 feet west of <br />a marble slab on the southern side of said street at the <br />western side of the Rosa Carroll property, as shown on s <br />plat entitled "Physical Survey of a Portion of Parcel <br />Plat of Property of G. Hatton Estate, Located near <br />Alexander's Corner~', recorded with a deed from William H. <br /> <br /> <br />
