AN ORD!NA~NCE TO PROVIDE FOR THE ACQUISITION OF CERTAIN PROPERTY BY THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH D~DER EMINENT DO~Z~IN PROCEEDINGS PURSUANT TO CHAPTER 258 OF THE ACTS OF ASSEmbLY OF 1958, SAID PROPERTY BEING NECESSARY FOR iM~ROVEM~NT OF A PORTION OF PORTSMOTJ~H BOULEVARD~ ROUTE 337, PARCEL 153. W~EREAS, the City of Portsmouth has found it ~o be necessary to widen and otherwise improve a portion of Portsmouth Boulevard, Route 337, under a Federal Urban Aid Program whereby it is the responsibility of the said City to ac~aire all necessary additional property; and WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth has not been able to purchase certain property necessary to this project because the owners there- of and the City have not been able to agree upon the price Lo be paid therefor; and ~EREAS, advancement of the work will be delayed unreason- ably if the said proper~y is no5 made available as soon as possible. NOW, THEREFORE, be it ordained by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the City Attorney is directed to institute eminent domain proceedings, employing counsel for that purpose, against the property hereinafter described, in accordance with and pursuant to Section 23-f of the Charter of the City of Portsmouth (Chapter 258 of the Acts of Assembly of 1958), and that the sum of ~567.00 be deposited to the credit of the court as provided by law to com- pensate the owners thereof: (a) The owners of'record ere as follows: William J. Griggs and Henrietta P. Griggs (b) The interest ~o be acquired is the fee simple estate zn and to the property hereinafter described as Parcel 153. (c) The approximate area of Parcel 153 is 1~050 square feet. (d) The description of the property is as fotlows~ That certain parcel of land situate in the City of Portsmouth, virginia, more particularly described as follows: Parcel 153 Beginning at a point on the southern side of Portsmouth Boulevard (formerly Old Suffolk Boulevard) S00 feet west of a marble slab on the southern side of said street at the western side of the Rosa Carroll property, as shown on s plat entitled "Physical Survey of a Portion of Parcel Plat of Property of G.
