of exhibiting a red light plainly visible in clear <br />weather from a distance five hundred feet to the rear <br />of such vehicle and such rear lamp shall be constructed <br />and so mounted in its relation to the rea~ license <br />plate as to illt~,minate by a white light such lieense <br />plate so that the same may be read from a 5istance of <br />fifty feet to the rear of such veb_icle; or a separate <br />white light shall be so mounted as to illuminate and <br />make visible such rear license from a distance of fifty <br />feet to the rear of such vehicle, such rear light or <br />special white light to be of a type that has been ap- <br />proved by the Superintendent. <br /> In any, instance where the rear lamp is to be in- <br />stalled on a boat trailer and the boat extends beyond <br />the end of the trailer or to the end of the trailer, <br />an approved portable light assembly or assemblies may <br />be attached to the exposed rear of the boat, provided <br />such installation complies with the visibility require- <br />ments of this section. <br /> <br />Sec. 18-246. Requirements of signal devices. <br /> <br /> (a) Ever%~ device intended and used to give a signal <br />of intention to turn or to stop a vehicle shall be so <br />constructed and so installed as 5o give a signal plainly <br />visible in clear weather and under non,a! traffic con- <br />ditions from a distance of at least or~ hundred feet <br />to tlne rear and one hundred feet ~o the front of the <br />vehicle, except that a stop signal need be visible only <br />to the rear'; and provided that no front sigaal shall <br />be required on vehicles manufactured or assembled be- <br />fore January first, nineteen h~un~di~ed and forty-three. <br /> (b) Motor vehi6les, trailers sand semitrailers <br />When not in motion and a5 the scene of a traffic haza~l~ <br />~ray flash all four turn signals simultaneously to sig- <br />nal approaching motorists of the existi~ ~zard. <br /> <br />Sec. 18-249.
