AN ORDINANCE IMPOSING AND COLTECI~L~G TAXES ON REAL ESTATE, TAHGIBLE <br />PERSONAL PROPERI~, AND MACED~RY AND TOOLS WITHIN THE LIMITS OF THE <br />CITY OF PO~TS~DUiIt, VIRGINIA, FOR THE PURPOSE OF RAISING PEVENUE FOR <br />THE SUPPOR~ OF THE GOVEP~EET A~D THE PUBLIC ~'t'~.~ SCHOOLS AND TO 'PAY <br />~T AND SINKING F~D ON THE PUBLIC DEBT FOR THE YEAR BEGINNING <br />JA~UARY 1, 1965. <br /> <br /> Be it ord,1 ned by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1, For the year beginning January 1, 1965, and for each <br />year thereafter until annulled by ordinance, the following tax shall <br />be placed on real estate, tangible personal property, and machinery <br />and tools within the limits of the City of Portsmouth, for the purpose <br />of raising revenue for the support of the government and the public <br />free schools and to pay interest and sinking fund on the public debt. <br /> <br /> 2. The tax on real estate for the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, shall be Three ($3.00) Dollars on each one hundred dollars <br />assessed valuation thereof. <br /> <br />3. Classification of Tangible Personal Property: <br /> <br /> (a) The following shall be classified as Tangible <br />Personal. Property and taxed at the rate of Two Dollars and Seventy- <br />five Cents ($2.75) on each one hundred dollars assessed valuaticu <br />thereof: <br /> <br /> (1) The aggregate number of horses, mules and other <br />kindred animals and the value thereof. <br /> <br />(2) The number of cattle and the value thereof. <br /> <br />(3) The number of sheep and goats and the value thereof. <br /> <br />(4) The number of hogs and the value thereof. <br /> <br /> (5) The aggregate nUnber and value of all automobiles,- <br />motor trucks, motorcycles and s]l other motor vehicles, except any <br />vehicle without motive power used or designed to be used as & mobile <br />home or office or for other means of habitation by a~y person. <br /> <br /> (6) The aggregate value of all animal drawn vehicles <br />and bicycles. <br /> <br /> (7) The aggregate value Of all farming implements and <br />tools of mechanics. <br /> <br /> <br />
