OP, i)IHAflC£ HO. <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE TO ~EMOVE PORTSMOUrH FROM THE JURISDI6TION OF <br />RIqE STA~E PUPIL PLA~T BO~D AND VEST THE PO¥~ER OF PUPIL ASSI~ <br /> THE SCHOOL BOARD OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUI~. <br /> <br /> T~HE~, the School Board of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />has recommended that the City of Portsmouth be removed from the juris- <br />diction of the State Pupil Placement Board and that the power of pupil <br />assigr~ent be vested in the School Board of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREF0~E, BE IT ORD~Z~NED by the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia: <br /> <br /> Section 1. The City of Portsmouth, Virginia, hereby elects <br />to be bound by the provisions of Article 1.2 of Chapter 12 of Title 22 <br />of the COd~ of Virginia, 1950, as amended, in lieu of the provisions <br />of sections 22-232.1 through 22-232.17 of said code. <br /> <br /> Section 2. Frcm and after the effective date of this ordi- <br />nance, all power of enrollment and placement of pupils in the Portsmouth <br />Public Schools shall be vested in the School Board of the City of <br />Portsmouth. <br /> <br /> Section 3. The City Clerk shall forward certified copies of <br />this ordinance to the School Board of the City of Portsmouth, the State <br />Board of Education, and the State Pupil Placement Board. <br /> <br /> Sectibn 4. This ordinance being necessary for the preserva- <br />tion of the public health, morals and safety, an emergency is declared <br />to exist and it shall take effect from and after its passage. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />at ameetingheld, April 27, 1965. <br /> <br />Taste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
