Any extra compensation allowed must be approved inadvance of the performance of the <br /> work by the Chief of each department with the approval of the City Manager and must <br /> <br /> be entered hy the Chief on the next succeeding payroll submitted to the City Auditor~ <br /> Section 9o Salary Adjustments~ <br /> <br /> Salary adjustments shall become effective on the first day of the month <br /> <br /> following the anniversary date of employment. <br /> Section 10o Complement. <br /> <br /> (a) The authorized complement of the Fire Department shall be one Chief, <br /> six Assistant Chiefs, twenty-sevenCaptains, twenty-seven Engineers, and one hundred <br /> twenty-nine Hosemen~ <br /> <br /> {b) The authorized complement of the Police Department shall be one Chief, <br />-ten Captains, twelve Lieutenants, twenty-one Sergeants, and one hundred forty-four <br />Patrolmen-Detectives~ <br /> <br /> This Ordinance being necessary for the preservation of the public health, <br />morals, and safety, an~ emergency is declared to exist, and it shall take effect from <br />and after its passage~ <br /> <br /> AdQ~ted by the Co~cil of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia~ at a meeting <br /> <br /> held on Jsnuary 25, 1966. <br /> Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br />3 <br /> <br /> <br />
