AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE CLASSIFICATION OF EMPLOYMENT <br /> AND A COMPENSATION PLAN FOR FIREMEN AND POLICEMEN OF THE CITY <br /> <br /> Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia: <br /> <br /> Section 1. Employees Classified. <br /> <br /> On and after January 7, 1966, all Firemen and Policemen of the City of <br />Portsmouth, shall be classified according to their rank and their compensation shall <br />be fixed according to such rank heldo <br /> <br /> Section 2. Rates of Compensation° <br /> <br /> The basic salary of compensation of each Fireman and Policeman until <br />otherwise changed by Ordinance, shall be according to the schedule of pay hereinafter <br />set forth designated as Schedule A and made a part of this ordinance except that <br />men in the Police Department required to wear civilian clothes will be allowed an <br /> <br />additional twenty dollars {$20.00) per month as a clothing allowance. <br /> Section 3. Application to Present Firemen and Policemen. <br /> <br /> Ail Firemen and Policemen of the City shall receive the same compensation <br />according to their classification as set forth in Schedule A of this Ordinance. Any <br />Fireman or Policeman of the City who is at the effective date of this Ordinance <br />receiving less than the amount provided for in the schedule for his class of employment <br />shall on and after January 7, 1966, receive the amount set forth in the schedule° <br />Any Fireman or Policeman who is receiving on the effective date of this Ordinance, <br />more than the amount he would be entitled to receive under said schedule, shall <br />continue at the same salary until his years of service shall entitle him to an <br /> <br />increase in compensation, <br /> <br /> <br />
