Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia: 1. That Section 8 of Ordinance No. 1966-52 be amended s_nd reordained to read as follows: Section 8. Overtime and Additional Compe~nsation. (a) Fireman and policemen v~aose rate of pay is fixed ~n a monthly basis shall not receive any co~ensation for extra or overtLme work, except in cases of emergency or as hereinafter provided. Any extra compensation ~l]owed must be approved in advance of the performance of the work by ~th~ Chief of the respective dep~t~ent ~ith the approval of the City ~ ~nager · and mst be entered by the Chief on the nex~ succeeding payroll submitted to the City Auditor. (~) Anything herein to the contrary notwithstanding, er~' memDer of the police department below the r~nk of capt~n~ placed on special assignment duty shall be paid at the rate of $2.50 per hour for the t~r~ spent on such duty. Such additiop~al co.~pensation must be entered by the Chief of Police on the r~xt succeeding payroll submitted to the City Auditor. Ail special assignn~nts must be authorized by the Chief of Police, or during his absence or disability, by the Deputy Chief of Police. Over- time work shall not be considered special assignmen~ duty. (c) Anything herein to the contra_~y not~_tb~standing, any me~er of the police department who appears as a witness, wb~n not on a regular assigned period of duty, in an~ case arising under the ordinanceS of the City of Portsmouth ~n the Cotu~ of Hustings for the City of Portsmouth shall be paid a witness fee of $2.00 for each such appearance. Such appearances shall be certified by the Clerk of the Court .to the Chief of Police ~o slq~ll report ssme to the City Auditor on such forms and at such ti~s as the City Auditor may prescribe. (d) The additional co~pensation aut~horized under subsections (b) and (c) above shall be in addition to all other compensation~ allowances and payments authorized by this or any other ordinance or law and shall apply to ail such duty performed and appearauces made on and after July l, 1967.
