Section 96. Taxicabs and For Hire Automobiles: Every person eno~aged in the business of ~eratirg taxicabs or for hire automobiles for public hire over zhe streets of the city under the provisior~ of the ordin~nces of the City of Portsmouth regulating the o~aration of taxicabs and for hire automobiles, and to whom a certificate of public convenience ~nd. necessity for the operation of such has been issued, shall pay a license tax as follows for engaging in such business~ $30.00 for each taxicab, whether operated or not. $25.00 for eanh for hire automobile, whether operated or not. The license tax herein ~osed shall not be in lieu of any other license tax imposed upon such ~eb~cles tunder other ordinances~ but shall be in addition thereto. Section 97. Tele~h Companies: Telegraph corspar~es doir~ business in tlne City of Portsmouth and em~a~ed in transrsitti~g or receivir~ messages to and from points in the State of Virginia: excepti~, however, telegrams sent to or received by the goverr~ment of tlne Ur~ted SVaves or of the State of Virginia, or their officers or agents, shall b~ divided into two classes, r~nely: Such tele~ph co~m~es doimE business in the City of Portsmoutb, Virginia, having fifty or more offices in~theState of V~i~a~ shall be placed in the first class~ and shall pay a tax of St80.00 ~n addition to ar~v other tax on the assessed values of their property. Such telegr~ companies doing business in the City of Ports- mouth, ~bavirg less tbm~n fifty offices in the State of Virginia~ shall be placed in the second class ~nd sb~tl pay a tax of $50.00 ~n addi- tion to ~ny other tax on the assessed -values of their porperty. In addition to the above tax, both classes of telegraph com- panies shall pay $1.50 for each tele~r~oh pole they my om or, use on the streets and alleys of the City of Portsmouth. Section 98.
