AN ORDINANCE TO A~N~ ~ CODE OF ~ ~ITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIJ., 1961, BY .~2~I~N~i~NG SECTION <br />2-34 PK~TAINING TO SICK LEAVE AI,IO~ED TO OFFICERS <br />AND EMPLOYEES OF.~P~E CITY OF PORTSMOL~H. <br /> <br />gir~t~: <br /> <br />Be it ordained.by the Cotuncil of the City of Portsmouth, Vir- <br /> <br /> l. That Section 2-34 of the Code of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virgim~a~ 1961, be amended and reordained to read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 2-34. Sick Leave. <br /> <br /> There shall be granted to each full time regular officer and <br />employee, except those in the police and fire divisions sick leave with <br />pay atthe rate of one-half day of sick leave for each continuous calen- <br />dar n~nth'of emplo~m~ent. ~ae sick leave shall be accmmulative over a <br />period of yeses to a maximum of one hundred and twenty days, which shsll <br />be the maxim~n sick leave with pay allowed d~ing amy fiscal year. The <br />city manager or the head of the division supel~ising the employe~ sb~ll, <br />when he deams it advisable, require a certificate from a reputable ~hysi- <br />clan as evidence of illness before compensation for a sick leave period <br />is allowed, m~j the city ~mmager in his discretion rmay also require an <br />examination by a reputable physician selected by him, whose decision as <br />to the illness of the officer or employee shall, be t~<en as final bythe <br />city m~nager. <br /> <br /> No officer or amp!oyee shall be entitled to or reoeive compen- <br />sation for sick leave unless he is employed by the city at the time he <br />becomes sick. No officer or employee s~ll be entitled to mny compen- <br />sation for_unused sick leave, either wb~le still employed or upo~ termi- <br />nation of employment v~th the city. <br /> <br />i970. <br /> <br />2.
