Service. The word "service" shall be taken to mean service as an employee <br />for which compensation is paid by the employer. <br /> <br /> System. The word "system" shall be taken to mean the "Portsmouth Fire and <br />Police Retirement System" provided for in this article. <br /> <br />Section 26-65. Cessation of membership. <br /> <br /> The membership of any person in the system shall cease: <br /> <br /> (a) If he ceases to be an employee, unless the member leaves service after <br />~nen~n~reyears ofcreditab!eserviceanddoesnotwithdrawhisaccumulated <br /> <br /> on~r~ou~ions; or <br /> <br /> (C) Upon death. <br /> <br /> Section 26-76. Service retirement. <br /> <br /> (a) Normal retirement: ~ay member in service at his nor~_l retirement date <br />may retire at any time then or thereafter upon written notification to the board <br />made by such member or his appointing auth0rity, setting forth at what time the <br />retirement is to become effective; provided, that such effective date s~hall be <br />after bis last day of service, but shall not be ~ore than ninety days prior to <br />or subsequent to the filing of such notice. <br /> <br /> (b) Early retirement: Any member who has completed twenty-five years of <br />service ~ay retire ~oonwritten notification to the board, made by the member or <br />his ~mployer, setting forth at what time the retirement is to become effective; <br />provided that such effective date shall be after his last day of service and <br />after th~ filing of such notice but shall not be more than ninety days Subsequent <br />to the filingo of suc~ notice. <br /> <br /> (c) Deferred retirement for members terminating service: Any~mber <br />having left the service after the attainment of age fifty ~nd after having completed <br />twenty, years of creditable serw2ce r~y retire under the provisions of subsection <br />(a) of this section; provide~ that he s~li not have withdrawn his accumulated <br />contributions prior to the effective date of his retirement, ~ud except that <br />any requir~ments as to the member being in service shall not ~oply. <br /> <br /> (d) Mandato~- retirement: ~v member who attains sixty-two years of age <br />shall be retired forthwitB. <br /> <br />Section 26-77. Serd~2ce retirement allowance. <br /> <br /> (a) Upon ser~¢ice retirement on or after July 1, 1968, a member Shall receive <br />an annual retirement ~_llow~nce, payable monthly to ~ for life, of an amount equal <br />to two percentum of his average final cor~pensation, multiplied by the number of years <br />of his creditable se~zice. <br /> <br /> <br />
