AN ORDINANCE TO AMEADI S~ffION i0 OF ORDINANCE NO. 1969-46 I~ WF~EASING <br /> <br /> Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Vir- <br />ginia: <br /> <br /> .1. 'That Sectign 10 of Ordinance No. 1969-46 be amended and <br />reorda] ned to read. as follows:. <br />Section 10. Overtime and additional compensatxon. <br /> <br /> (a) Firefighters and policemen whose rate of pay is fixed on <br />a monthly basis shall not receive any compensation for extra or over- <br />time work, except in cages of e~nergency or as hereinafter provided. <br />Any extra compensation allowed must be approved in advance of the per- <br />formance of the work by the Chief of the respective department with <br />the approval of the City Manager and must be entered by the Chief on <br />the next succeeding payroll submitted to the City Auditor. <br /> <br /> (b) Anything herein to the contrary, notwithstanding, any fire- <br />fighter or police officer below the rauk of deputy chief placed on <br />special assignment duty shall be paid at the rate of $2.50 per hour <br />for the time spent on such duty. Such additior~l compensation must <br />be entered by the chief of the department on the next succeedirg pay- <br />roll submitted to the City Auditor. All special assignments must be <br />authorized by the chief of the department, or during inis absence or <br />disability, by the deputy chief. Overtime work shall not be conside~ad <br />special assignment duty. <br /> <br /> (c) Anything herein to the contrary notwithstanding, suny fire- <br />fig~hter or police officer w~ho appear-s as a witness, when not on a re- <br />gular assigned period of duty, in any criminal case in any court in the <br />City of Portsmouth shall be paid a witness fee of $5.00 for each such <br />appearance; provided however, that only those firefighters and police <br />officers who are. necessary to the prosecution of the case ~y be paid <br />such witness fee in connection with' the trial of an~v particular case; <br />and ftu~ther provided however, that no firefighter or police officer <br />shall be paid more than one such witness fee per day regardless of how <br />many cases or couz~s he may be required to appear or testify in. Such <br />appearances shall be certified by the Clerk of the Court to the Fire <br />Chief or the Folice Chief, respectively, who shall report same to the <br />City Auditor on.such forms and at such times as the City Auditor may <br />prescribe. <br /> <br /> <br />
