~N ORDLM,~NCE TO ~w~END SECTIONS 10-36, t0-41, 10~49 AND 10-60 <br />O,~ ~ CODE OF 'I~'~d~ C~iT'OF PORTSMOD~fH, V~RGINIA, 1961, CHANGING <br />THE TAX ~R OF ~ CITY FROM A CALENDAR 'YF_~R TO THE FISCAL <br />YEAR CO~CING ON THE FIRST DAY OF JULY OF EACH YEAR. <br /> <br /> Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That sections 10-36, 10-41, 10-49 and 10-60 of the <br />Code of the City of Ports~outh, Virginia, 1961, be amended and <br />reordained to r~ad as follows: <br /> <br />Section 10-36. Preparation of assessments of persons s~nd property; <br /> delivery of property assessments to city treasurer. <br /> <br /> ?ne commissioner of the revenue sP~ll proceed, annually, <br />on.the first day of January, to make assessments of all persons <br />and property subject to taxation by the provisions of this Code or <br />other ordinances of the city in the same msmner and form as is re- <br />quired by the revenue laws of the State. The assessment of all <br />personal property shall become effective for tax purposes on the <br />first day of July of each year.' He s~ll record such assessments~ <br />~on separate rolls or books of assessment for the city, retaking <br />the necessary co~,~plete copies thereof. He shall deliver to the <br />city treasurer a copy of the record of assessments of personal pro- <br />perry on or before September first of each year. <br /> <br />Section 10-41. Adoption of annual tax ordinance. <br /> <br /> The council shall, at the first regular meetirg in May <br />of each year or as soon thereafter as practicable, adopt a tax <br />ordinance, which shall specify the amount of per ~nnt~n tax which <br />.is to be le~ed upon the real and personal property, and upon per- <br />sons, within the city, for such year. <br /> <br />Section 10-49. F~fective date of assessments. <br /> <br /> Every annual assessment shall be effective for tax our- <br />poses on the first day of July of the fiscal year for which t~e <br />assessment is made arid the taxes and other charges shall be extended <br /> <br /> <br />
