AN ORDINA~CE_~TO <br />MOUTH, VIRGINIA, <br />NUMBERED ~-11.1, <br />TAIN-F~TRICAL <br />EQUI~PMENT. <br /> <br />AMEND THE CODE OF THE CITY OF POR <br /> 1961, BY ADDING THERETO A NEW SECTION <br /> PROHIBITING THE SALE AND USE OF CER- <br />MATERIALS, DEVICES, APPLIANCES AND <br /> <br /> Be it ordained by the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth,. Virginia: <br /> <br />t. 'That the ~ode of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, 1961, <br />be amended by adding thereto a new section numbered 9'-11.1, <br />such new section to read as follows: <br /> <br />SECTION 9-11.1. Materials and equipment. <br /> <br /> (a) ~xcept for light sources such as incandescent <br />and g~seous discharge lamps, it shall be unlawful for any <br />person to sell, offer for sale, or display for sale for use <br />in the city any electrical material., device, appliance or <br />equipment designed or intended for the consumption, trans- <br />mission or use of electric current and for attachment to <br />and installation on any electric current or electric system <br />in the-city for use in the city unless such material, device, <br />appliance or equipment shall have been approved by the Under- <br />writers' Laboratories, Inc. as indicated by its label, attached <br />thereto and also listed in the latest available .publication <br />Of its manual entitled~ "List of Inspected Electrical Equip- <br />ment''. <br /> <br /> (b) It shall be unlawful for any person to install <br />or connect on any electric current or electric system in the <br />city, any wiring, electrical_material, device, appliance or <br />equipment designated and intended-for the ~onsumption,'urans- <br />mission and use of electric current unless such wiring, elec- <br />trical material, device, appliance and equipment shall have <br />been approved as set forth in paragraph (a) hereof. <br /> <br /> [c) Any stamp or label affixed to any such ~iring, <br />material, device or-appliance or equipment indicating such <br />approval shall be prima facie evidence that the same complies <br />with the provisions of this section. <br /> <br /> (d) The proviszons of paragraph (b) hereof shall <br />not apply to installations and connections made by public <br />service corporations in their plants and stations used ex- <br />c!usiv.ely for their o~n business. <br /> <br />2.
