AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTIONS 10-128 AND 10-129 OF THE <br />CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, 1961~ PERTAIN- <br />ING TO MEMBERSHIP OF T~E PORTSMOUTH TAX STUDY COMMISSION. <br /> <br /> Be it ordained by the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia: <br /> <br />t. That Sections 10-128 and 10-129 of the Code of the City <br />of Portsmouth, Virginia, 1961, be amended and reord&ined <br />to read as follows: <br /> <br />Sec. 10-128. Portsmouth Tax Study Commission. <br /> <br /> There is hereby created a commission to be known <br />as the ~ortsmouth Tax Study Commission which shall consist <br />of nine members. The members of the Commission shall be <br />residents of tke city. The Commission members shall be <br />appointed By the Council. Of those so appointedr at least <br />two shall be employees of the City, and at least five shall <br />be private citizens. <br /> <br />Sec. 10-129. Terms of members; vacancies; com- <br /> pensation. <br /> <br /> The terms of the members shall begin on July 1, <br />1970~ Of the original Commission, two of the members shall <br />be appointed for a term of one year~ two for a term of two <br />years, and three for a term of three years. The Council <br />shall appoint two additional members, one for a term to expire <br />on July 1, 1971, an~ one ~or a term to expire on July 1, 1972. <br />At the expiration of the respective terms, their successors <br />shall be appointed for terms of three years. They shall hold <br />office ~uring their respective terms and until their successors <br />are appointed and qualified. All vacancies shall be filled by <br />appointment by the Council for the remainder of the unexpired <br />term° All members of the board shall serve as such without <br />compensation. <br /> <br />2. An e~ergency exists and this ordinance shall take effect <br />from its passage. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmout~,~_ <br />Virginia~ at a meetin~ hei~ on February 23, 1971.
