AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 34-9 OF THE CODE OF THE <br />CITY OF P©RTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, 196t, TO INCREASE THE <br />RATES OF FARE THAT SHALL ~EE CHARGED BY TAXICABS. <br /> <br /> Be it ordained by the Council of ~he City <br />of Portsmouth, Virginia: t. That Section 34~9 of the <br />Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, 1961, be <br />amended and reordained to read as follows: <br /> <br />Sec. 34-9. Fares Generally. <br /> <br /> No person owning,, operating, driving or con- <br />trolling a taxicab within the limits of the city shall <br />charge an amount to exceed the following rates of fare: <br /> <br />For the first one-half mile or fraction <br />thereof $ .50 <br />For each one-fifth mile or fraction <br />thereof in addition to the first one- <br />half mile .10 <br />For each piece of baggage other than <br />one handbag per passenger .25 <br />For each package unless passenger <br />transports package to and from-cabs <br />and holds package on lap in transit . <br />For each foot locker or trunk .50 <br />For each one minute of waiting time <br />or fraction thereof .10 <br /> <br /> If hired on an hourly basis, the rate of six <br />dollars per hour shall apply. <br /> <br /> Waiting time shall include the time when the <br />taxicab is not in motion, beginning with the time of arrival <br />at the ~lace to which it ms called but excluding time con- <br />sumed by the premature response to calls. <br /> <br /> No returning charge shall be made where the ~axi- <br />cab was engaged in the city or the Navy Yard and the passenger <br />discharged in the City or Navy Yard. <br /> <br /> The rates of fare shall be conspicuously posted- <br />in each taxicab. <br /> <br /> Charges herein set forth shall be binding upon the <br />owners and o~erators~ and the collection of fares in excess <br />of such rates shall be unlawful. <br /> <br /> <br />
