AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, 1961, BY AMENDING SECTION 2-34 PER- <br />TAINING TO SICK LEAVE ALLOWED TO OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES OF <br />THE cITY OF PORTSMOUTH- <br /> Be it ordained by the Council of the City of PortS- <br /> mouth, Virginia: <br /> 1. That Section 2-34 of the code of the City of <br /> Portsmouth, Virginia, 1961, be amended and reordained to read <br /> as follows: <br /> <br /> Section 2-34. sickLeave~ <br /> There shall be granted to each full time regular <br /> officer and employee, except those in the police and fire <br /> . ' . eave with pay at the rate of one day of sick <br /> departmentS, sick ~. - -~l~ndar month of employment. The <br /> leave for each contlnuou~ u .... limitation. The <br /> sick leave shall be accumulative without <br /> city manager or the head of the division supervising the employee <br /> shall, when he deems it advisable, require a certificate from <br /> a reputable physician as evidence of illness before compensation <br /> for a sick leave period is allowed, and the city manager in his <br /> discretion may also require an examination by a reputable <br /> physician selected by him, whose decision as to the illness <br /> of the officer or employee shall be taken as final by the city <br /> manager. <br /> No officer or employee shall be entitled to or re- <br /> ceive compensation for sick leave unless he is employed by the <br /> city at the time he becomes sick. No officer or employee shall <br /> be entitled to any compensation for unused sick leave, either <br /> while still employed or upon termination of employment with the <br /> city. 2. An emergency exists, and this ordinance shall take <br /> <br /> effect July 1, 1971o <br /> Adopted by the council of the City of Portsmouth, <br /> Virginia, at a meeting held June 22, 1971. <br /> Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
