AN ORDIISANCE CREATING THE PORTSMOUTH ZONING ORDINANCE STUDY COI~-- <br />iiISSSION, PROVIDING FOR THE APPOINTMENT, TER~I OF OFFICE, ~2~D FOR <br />THE FILING OF VACANCIES ON SAID CO~,~ISSION~ FOR THE COMPENSATION <br />OF SAID ~iEMBERS, FOR THE ORGANIZATION OF SAID COM~ISSION, AND PRE- <br />SCRIBING THE RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES OF SAID CO~%ISSION. <br /> <br /> Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Vir- <br />ginia: <br /> <br /> Section 1. Portsmouth Zoning Ordinance Study Commission - <br /> composition° <br /> <br /> A commission, to be known as the Portsmouth Zoning Ordi- <br /> nance Study Commission, is hereby created. The com~ission <br /> shall consist of five members, the City Attorney, the Director <br /> of Inspections, the Planning Director, and two citizens ap- <br /> pointed by the Council, one of whom shall be an architect and <br /> one shall be in the business of developing subdivisions. All <br /> members shall be residents of the city. <br /> <br />Section 2. Same - terms of members; oath; vacancies; <br /> compensation. <br /> <br /> The members shall be appointed to serve for a term of <br />two years. Any vacancy in the office of any appointed member <br />shall be filled by appointment by the council for the re- <br />mainder of the unexpired term. Ali members of the commission <br />shall serve as such without compensation. <br /> <br />Section 3. Same - organization; quorum. <br /> <br /> The commission shall elect a chairman. The commission <br />may create and fill such other of its offices as it may <br />determine. A majority of the members of th~ commission shall <br />constitute a qnorum for the transaction of business. <br /> <br />SectiOn 4. Same - Responsibilities and Duties. <br /> <br /> The commission shall make a study of the present Zoning <br />ordinance of the City and in connection therewith shall make <br />such recommendations as it shall deem advisable to the City <br />Council. All such recommendations shall be submitted to the <br />City Council on or before July 1~ 1972~ unless such time limit <br />shall be extended by the Council. <br /> <br />Section 5.
