AN ORDINANCE TO CLOSE A 20 FOOT ALLEY BETWEEN PROGRESS <br />AVENUE AND WEST NORFOLK ROAD (S-73-4) . <br /> <br /> W~EREAS, Virginia Chemicals, Inc. of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia has made application to vacate and close that <br />hereinafter described 20 foot alley between Progress Avenue <br />and West Norfolk Road; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, by resolution of this Council adopted <br />February 27, 1972, viewers were appointed pursuant to Section <br />15.1-364 of the COde of Virginia, 1950, as amended, to view <br />the hereinafter described alley and to report in writing <br />whether in their opinion any, and if any, what inconvenience <br />would result from the discontinuing of the below described <br />alley; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the said viewers have reported in writing <br />that in their opinion no inconvenience would result from <br />closing and discontinuing said alley; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of <br />the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that that portion of a <br />20 foot alley described as follows be and the same is hereby <br />closed and vacated as a public street; <br /> <br /> Ail that certain piece or parcel of land <br />lying and being in the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia and more particularly described accord- <br />ing to that certain plat entitled, "Map of <br />West Norfolk according to Grimes and Hargrove's <br />Survey" of record in the Office of the Clerk of <br />the Circuit Court of the City of Chesapeake, <br />Virginia, in Map Book iO, page 43. <br /> <br /> BEGINNING at a point in the north line of <br />West Norfolk Road (formerly Virginia Avenue), <br />said point being 51.17 feet northwest of the <br />northwest corner of the intersection of West <br />Norfolk Road and Progress Avenue (formerly <br />Third Avenue), runs thence in a northeasterly <br />direction in a line parallel with the south <br />line of Chemical Way (formerly Jefferson Street) <br />35.70 feet to a point in the west line of Pro- <br />gress Avenue; runs thence in a northwesterly <br />direction along the west line of Progress <br />Avenue 20 feet to a point, runs thence in a <br />southwesterly direction in a line parallel with <br />the south line of Chemical Way 55.18 feet to a <br />point in the north line of West ~orfolk B~ad, <br /> <br /> <br />
