AN ORDINANCE TO ~END THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, <br />VIRGINIA, 1961, BY AMENDING SECTION 2-34 PERTAINING TO SICK <br />LEAVE ALLOWED TO OFFICERS AND ~IPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Ports- <br />mouth, Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That Section 2-34 of the Code of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, 1961, be amended and reordained to read <br />as follows: <br /> <br />Section 2-34. sick Leave. <br /> There shall be granted to each full time regular <br />officer and employee sick leave with pay at the rate of one and <br />one-half day of sick leave for each continuous calendar month <br />of employment. The sick leave shall be accumulative without <br />limitation. The city manager or the head of the division <br />supervising the employee shall, when he deems it advisable¥ <br />require a certificate from a reputable physician as evidence <br />of illness before compensation for a sick leave period is <br />allowed, and the city manager in his discretion may also <br />require an examination by a reputable physician selected <br />by him, whose decision as to the illness of the officer <br />or employee shall be taken as final by the city manager. <br /> <br /> No officer or employee shall be entitled to or re- <br /> ceive compensation for sick leave unless he is employed by <br /> the City at the time he becomes sick. No officer or employee <br /> shall be entitled to any compensation for unused sick leave, <br /> either while still employed or upon termination of employment <br /> with the city. <br /> <br /> 2. An emergency exists, and this ordinance shall <br /> take effect July 1, 1973. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br /> Virginia, at a meeting held June 26, 1973. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
