AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE CODE OF ThE CITY OF PORTSMOUTii, VIRGINIA, <br />1973, BY AMENDING THE TITLE OF ARTICLE VIII OP CNi%PTER 2 THEREOF; <br />BY REPEALING SECTIO£{S 2-162~ 2-163, 2-164, 2-165, 2-166~ 2-167, <br />2-168, 2-169 AND 2-170 THEREOF; BY REPEALING AND ABOLISHING THE <br />DESIGNATION OF DIVISIONS WITHIN ARTICLE VIIi; AND BY ADDING THERE- <br />TO A NEW SECTION NUMBERED 2-176 PERTAINING TO AEOLIS~24ENT OF THE <br />DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY AND CERTAIN FINANCIAL REPORTING PRO- <br />CEDURES TO BE USED 8Y CERTAIN BUREAUS, DIVISIONS AND OFFICES OP <br />THE CITY. <br /> <br /> Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That the title of Article ViII of Chapter 2 of the <br />Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, 1973, is hereby amend- <br />ed to read as follows: <br /> <br />ARTICLE VIII: FIRE AND POLICE DIVISIONS <br /> <br /> 2. That Sections 2-162, 2-163, 2-164~ 2-165, 2-166, <br />2-167, 2-168, 2-169, and 2-170 of the Code of the City of Ports- <br />mouth, Virginia, 1973, are hereby repealed. <br /> <br /> 3. That the designation of certain sections into di- <br />visions within Article VIII of Chapter 2 of the Code of the City <br />of Portsmouth, Virginia, 1973, specifically, Division 1, Divismon <br />2, and Division 3, is hereby repealed and abolished. <br /> <br /> 4. That the Code of the City of Portsmonth, Virginia, <br />1973, is hereby amended by adding thereto a new section n~m~ered <br />2-176 which section shall read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 2-176. Department of Public Safety abolished; <br /> retention for financial reporting purposes. <br /> <br /> (a) The Department of Public Safety and the office <br />of Director of Public Safety are hereby abolished for all admini- <br />strative and operational purposes, exceet as set forth in subsectioe <br />(b) hereof. <br /> <br /> (b) Notwithstanding the provisions of subsection <br />(a) of this ordinance, the director of finance or his designee <br />shall continue to designate certain bureaus, divisions and <br />offices of the city as being within the Oeparhn~ent of Public <br />Safety. Such designation shall include all bureaus, divisions <br />and offices as may now be or may hereafter be required to fall <br />under the general category of the Department of Public Safety <br /> <br /> <br />
