AN ORDINANCE TO AM~qD THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORi~SMOUTH, VI~INIA, 1973, BY AMENDING SECTIONS 23-493 AND 23-494; PERTAINING TO MALL Ah~ MALL TRANSIT S~S. BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia: 1. That Section 23-493 of the Code of the City of .Portsmouth, Virginia, 1973, be amended to read as follows: Section23-493. Established. For the purpose of regulating traffic pursuant to the police power of the City and to insure the safety of pedestrian traffic, the following streets are hereby designated Mall and Mall transit streets, subject to the provisions of this ordinance. (1) (2) (3) Middle Street between High Street and King Street; Middle Street between High Street and Queen Street; 'King street for a distance of 355 feet ~t of the centerline of Middle Street Mall and 230 feet west of said centerline. MALL TRkNSIT STR~i~t~ None 2. That Section 23-494 of the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Vir- ginia, 1973, be amended to read as follows: Section 23-494. vehicles prehihited; exceptions. On any mall street or mall transit street no person shall operate or park any vehicle, including but not limited to autc~obiles, trucks, motorcycles, and bicycles, on such street, other than the following: (a) ~) (c) (d) Emergency vehicles; Public vehicle and equipment and public utility vehicles and equipment (other"than for transit or transportation purposes); Vehicles and equipment engaged in the construction or i0a/ntenance of such street; Construction vehicles and equipment, between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.nL only, while being used in the con- struction, repair or demolition of any buildings or structures adjacent to such street, provided that a permit has been first obta/ned frc~u the Deparllaent of Building /_nspection or the Depsrtn~nt of Public Works;
