AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 23-204~ CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, 1973, PERTAINING TO PROHIBITION AGAINST NON- <br />HANDICAPPED PERSONS PARKING IN SPACES RESERVED FOR T~OSE <br />PERSONS WHO ARE HANDICAPPED; ADDING SECTION 23-204.1 TO Ti{E <br />CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH~ 1973~ TO PROSCRIBE A PEN'~.TY <br />FOR NON-HANDICAPPED PERSONS PARKING IN AN AREA DESIGNATED FOR <br />HANDICAPPED PARKING. <br /> <br /> 1. BE IT ORDAINED bv the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, that Section 23-204 be amended and <br />to read as follows: <br /> <br />reordained <br /> <br />Sec~ 23-204. Areas where parking prohibited generally. <br /> <br /> (a) No person shall park a vehicle, except ~hen necessary <br />to avoid conflict with other traffic or in compliance with the <br />directions of a police officer or traffic-control device, in any <br />of the following places: <br /> <br />(i) On a sidewalk. <br /> <br />(2} In front of a public driveway. <br /> <br />(3) On a crosswalk. <br /> <br />(4) Within twenty (20) feet of crosswalk at an <br /> intersection. <br /> <br />(5) <br /> <br />Within thirty (30) feet upon the approach to <br />any flashing beacon~ stop sign or traffic~ <br />control signal. <br /> <br />(6) <br /> <br />Between a safety zone and the adjacent curb~flr <br />within thirty (30) feet of points on the curb <br />i~ediately opposite the ends of a safety zone, <br />unless a different length is indicated by <br />official signs or markings. <br /> <br />(7) Within fifty (50) feet of the nearest rail <br /> of a railroad grade crossing. <br /> <br />Alongside or opposite any street excavation <br />or obstruction when such parking would obstruct <br />traffic~ <br /> <br />(9) On the roadway side of any vehicle parked at <br /> the edge or curb of a street. <br /> <br /> <br />
