AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 38-48(a) OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, 1973, PERTAINING TO WATER SERVICE CON~ECTION FEES. BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia: 1. That Section 38-48(a), Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, 1973, be amended and reordained to read as follows: Section 38-48. Service connections and maintenance. (a) New service connecti~ons. Whenever application is made pursuant to section 38-20 for the installation of a ~ew water service Connection within the city or within the Suffolk service area, the applicant shall make the payment hereinafter specified. The size and location of any such water service connection shall be determined by the director of public utilities. Such payment or deposit shall cover the following services, materials and labor: installing water service connection between the water main and meter, shutoff valve at the meter, outlet fitting on meter or metersetter, meter box and meter~ all of which shall be owned and thereafter maintained by the department of publicutll!tmes.' ' ' For the following sizes of service connection the indicated charge shall be paid in advance: 3/4 inch service connection 1 inch Service connection 1-1/2 inch service connection 2 inch service connection 4 inch service connection 6 inch service connection 300.00 ..................... 500.00 ..................... 800.00 ..................... 2,500.00 ..................... 4,000.00 Where the size of the service connection exceeds six (6) inches, the applicant shall be required to pay a charge equal to the actual cost of such installation, plus twenty-five per cent (25%). The minimum charge for an eight (8) inch service Connec- tion shall be four thousand five hundred dollars ($4,500.00) and the minimum charge for a ten (10) inch connection shall be six thousand dollars ($6f000.00!. The d~rector shall estimate the charge, and the applicant will deposzt such amount before the work is done. An accounting shall be made of the cost of such installation. If the deposit is less than such charge, the applicant shall pay the difference within ten (10) days, and if the deposit is more than such charge the difference shall be refunded promptly.
