AN ORDINANCE TO A~END THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, <br />VIRGINIA, 1973, BY AM-ENDING SECTION 23-105(a)(1) and (2), <br />THEREOF~ PERTAINING TO MOTOR VEHICLE SPEED RESTRICTIONS. <br /> <br /> BE iT ORDAINED by the Council of the Cit~ of Portsmouth, <br />VirginLa~ that Section 23-105[a)(!) ~nd (2) of the Code of <br />the City of Portsmouth~ Virginia, i973~ be amended to read <br />as follows: <br /> <br />Section 23-105. <br /> <br />Maximum speed limits established; placement, <br />removal of signs, signals in school zones; <br />authority of City ~anager to ~ncrease, reduce <br />speed limits. <br /> <br /> (a) The maximum speed limits on highways oi this City <br />shall be as prescribed in this section~ <br /> <br /> (1) Fifty-five (55) miles per hour on the interstate <br />system of highways ~r other limited access highways with divided <br />roadways if the vehicle is a passengez motor vehicle, passenger <br />bus~ United States Post Office bns~ pick~up or panel truck or <br />a motorcyc!e~ fifty-five (55) miles per hour on such highways <br />if the vehicle is a truck~ road tractor~ tractor Cruck~ or <br />combination of vehicles designed to transport property o~ is <br />a motor vehicle being used to tow a vehicle designed for <br />propulsion or a house trailer. <br /> <br /> (2) Fifty-five (55) miles per hour on non-limited <br />access highways having four (4) or more lanes if the vehicle <br />is a passenger motor vehicle~ passenger bus, United States Post <br />Office bus, pick-up or panel truck~ or a motorcycle; and fifty~ <br />five' {55} miles per hour on such highways if the vehicle is <br />a truck~ road tractor~ %rector truck, or a coordination of <br />vehicles designed to transport propert~ or is a l'eotor vehicle <br />being used to tow a vehicle designed for self-propulsion or <br />a house trailer, provided that for such highways such speed <br />has been prescribed by the City Manager aftez an Engineering <br />and Traffic investigation. On any highway where such speed is <br />prescribed, the speed shall be plainly indicated upon the highway <br />by signs and, where the speed limit is indicated by posted signs~ <br />there shall be a prima facie presumption that such engineering <br />and traffic investigation was made. <br /> <br /> This ordinance shall take effect from the date of its <br />adoption. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the C±t~ of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />at a meeting held June 5, 1979. <br /> <br />Testa: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
