AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTIONS 38-34 AND 38-34.1 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, 1973, PERTAINING TO METER RATES FOR WATER SUPPLY AND EMERGENCY SURCHARGE THEREON. BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia: 1. That Sections ~8~34 and 38-34.1 of the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Vlr'glnla, be amended and reordained to read as follows: Section 38-34. Meter rates for water supply. (a) For all water which passes through the ~eters, the consumers within the corporate limits of the City of Portsmouth and within the Old City of Suffolk service area served by contract shall pay a rate of eighty-three cents ($0.83) per one thousand (tO00) gallons or sixty_ two and one-quarter cents ($0°6225) per one hundred ~100) cubic feet of water supplied° (b) For all water which passes through the me%ers to the City of Chesapeake pursuant to contract, the City of Chesapeake shall pay seventy eight cents ($0.78) per one thousand (~,O00) gallons or fifty-eiqht and one-half cents ($0.5850) per one hundred (100) cubic feet of water supplied. ~c) For all water which passes through the meters, the constnuers in the City of Suffolk outside of the Old City of Suffolk service area served by contract shall pay the rate of one dollar and twenty-four and one-half cents ($1.245) per one thousand (I,O00) gallons or ninety-three and thirty- seven and one-half hundredths cents ($0.93375) per one hundred cubic feet of %~ater supplied. (d~ The rates prescribed herein will be reflected in bills rendered after ~uly 1, 1981. Section 38-34.1. Emergency Surcharge. In addition to the charges upon all consumers supplied with water by the department of public utilities provided for in this chapter there is hereby imposed an eraergency drought surcharge of twelve cents ~$0.12) per one thousand (1000) gallons or nine cents ($0.09) per one hundred (100) cubic feet of water supplied. The emergency surcharge will be reflected in all bills rendered after July 1, 1981, and will remain in effect until repealed by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia. (100)
