AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 14-5 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY <br />OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA~ 1973, PERTAINING TO CHARGES FOR <br />HANDLING REFUGE AT CITY INCINERATOR OR LANDFILL. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouthr <br />Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That Section 14-5 of the Code of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, be amended and reordained to read <br />follows: <br /> <br />as <br /> <br /> (a) Whenever incinerabte refuse is brought te the City <br />incinerator by persons other than residents with refuse from <br />their personal premises~ a fee of nine dollars and twenty- <br />five cents ($9.25) per ton or a minimum fee of six dollars <br />($6.00) per load shall be charged for the service. <br /> <br /> (b) Delivery to a city landfill by persons other than <br />residents of the City with refuse from their personal abode <br />shall pay a fee of four dollars ($4.00) per ton or two dollars <br />($2.00) per cubic yard or a minimum charge of two dollars <br />($2.00) per load, whichever is greater. The fee for depositing <br />rubber tires that have not been sliced, chopped, or otherwise <br />sufficiently defor~led to lose their rebounding characteristics <br />in the opinion of ~he director of public works shall be sixteen <br />dollars ($16.00) per ton. <br /> <br /> (c) Whenever refuse brought by any person to a city in- <br />cinerator or landfill for disposal is of such volume or <br />character as to cause undue expense to the City, the director <br />shall refuse to accept the same unless such person shall agree <br />to pay a service charge based upon the cost of handling and <br />disposing of such refuse. <br /> <br />2. This Ordinance shall take effect as of July 1, 1981. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />at a meeting held June 9, 1981. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
