AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CP~APTER 20 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, 1973, BY AMENDING SECTION 20-56 THEREOF PERTAINING TO BUSINESS LICENSES FOR CO~4ISSION MERCHANTS AND BY ADDING THERETO SECTION 20-74 PERTAINING TO SAVINGS AND LOAN ASSOCIATIONS. BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia: 1. That Section 20-56 of the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, 1973, be amended to read as follows: Section 20-56. Business Services. Every person engaged in business services shall pay a business license tax-of fifty dollars ($50.00) on the first five thousand dollars ($5,000.) of gross receipts and thirty cents ($0.30) on each additional one hundred dollars Business service shall be defined as any service rendered for compensation to any business, trade, occupation or govern- mental agency, unless the service is specifically provided for in another section of this article. Those engaged in rendering business services are, but are not limited to, the following: Barging and lightering; Billboard owners; Bill poster; Boats used for towing; Blueprinter - Bookkeeper; Co~mission Merchants; Shipping Offices; Laundry supplies; Other business services. 2. That Section 20-74 of the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, 1973, be adopted to read as follows: Section 20-74. Savings and Loan Associations. Every Savings and Loan Association which operates a home office in the City of Portsmouth shall pay an annual license tax of fifty dollars ($50.00). 3. This Ordinance shall take effect from the date of its adoption. Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, at a meeting held May 11, 1982. Teste: City Clerk
