RESOLUTION cONC~W~NING ~ IMPOSITION OF A <br /> STATE-WIDE SADE~ TAX. <br /> <br /> %~HEEE~, in recent years the City of Portsmouth has found it <br />exceedingly difficult to meet the rising demands for new and expanded <br />municipal services to its citizens, and <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth on June 13 1965, did Lw~pose a <br /> city-wide sales tax in an effo~ to raise the additional revenue <br /> necessary to meet such demands, and <br /> %~AS, it has been repor*~ed in the press that the General <br /> Assembly of Virginia will be requested to impose a state-wide sales <br /> <br />tSXo <br /> NOW, THEEEFORE, be it resolved by the Council of the City of <br />portsmouth, Virginia~ that it is the opinic~ of this council that a <br />· state-wide sales tax is unnecessary at this time~ and, therefore, <br /> it strongly opposes ~he imposition of such a t~x. <br /> · · · ' ' of a state- <br /> BE IT FURFHER RESOLVED that if the ~mposltmon <br /> wide sales tax is found to be necessary, then it is the opinion of this <br /> <br />council that the legislation <br />vision that will protect the <br />situated cities, from any los <br />erupting the sales tax field. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Coun¢ <br /> at a meeting held Decembe~ 2~ <br /> <br />~nacting such a tax should contain a pro- <br />~ity of Portsmouth, and other similarlY <br /> of revenue by reason of the state pre- <br /> <br />il of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia~ <br /> Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
